Sira Beach House
On Lombok’s unspoiled Sira peninsula, overlooking the celebrated Gili Islands and with views of neighbouring Bali’s Mount Agung, can be found the perfect island escape. Situated within its own palm grove and glorious lawns, Sira Beach House is a fully-staffed beach front villa.
Pristine beaches and clear warm waters a few short steps away from the house offer guests snorkelling and diving, while the property boasts its own salt water swimming pool plus tennis court and backs onto the beautiful Kosaido golf course. The Tugu Hotel is a 10 minute bicycle ride away – or an easy 20 minute stroll along the beach – while the Oberoi , Lombok is a mere 10 minutes by car.
Introduction
Sira Beach House has been designed with the environment in mind. Great care was taken to maintain the existing mature palm grove, with the buildings carefully positioned between the trees. The materials and skills employed, including bamboo shingle and palm thatch for the roofs, river stone walls and coconut columns, were sourced locally where possible, and the hand-woven bamboo screens were made by local artisans. Furthermore, the house infrastructure is state of the art ecologically – the hot water is solar heated and the waste water is organically-treated and re-cycled for the lawns and the organic vegetable garden. The swimming pool, too, was designed to the best environmental practices: salt water, with a chlorination back up to maintain the highest standards. At Sira Beach House, we are committed both to preserve the natural beauty and balance of Lombok and its tranquil pace of life.
Conceived and designed by London-based Jane Taylor Designers with the help locally of Nexus Studio, Bali, the house is furnished with antiques and objets collected by Alistair, Lord McAlpine (Editor at Large of World of Interiors magazine). He says of the project “It was a joy to work on such a spectacular house” . Together, the Naga rustic tables, elegant colonial chairs, masks from southern India and rare Indonesian textiles meld with modern pieces specially designed for the house by Jane Taylor to create an atmosphere of relaxed luxury.
